The second Masterclass of the Bocconi series “Regenerating the City: strategies and tools to manage transformations and create value” took place on October 2, 2025, focusing on “Financial instruments for sustainable urban regeneration”.
Professionals and experts provided valuable insights into the financing of urban regeneration projects, addressing the diversification of existing instruments and their role and relevance.
The program was articulated in three thematic sessions:
- An overview of the financial instruments available for urban regeneration, including both public resources and market-based mechanisms.
- A discussion on strategies for raising capital, with emphasis on actors, channels, and conditions enabling investments and financing.
- A series of case studies showcasing innovative applications of financial instruments to real projects.
The Masterclass offered participants the opportunity to explore both the challenges and opportunities of financing urban regeneration, while engaging with concrete examples and applied experiences.

- Edoardo Croci, Director, SUR Lab, Bocconi University
- Pietro Mazzi, Head of Industry Real Estate, Division IMI Corporate & Investment Banking, Intesa Sanpaolo
