Rome and the Climate City Contract: A New Episode of “Città in transizione”
The second episode of “Città in transizione” is now available online. The series is a special production of the Città di Will Media podcast, developed in collaboration with the Sustainable Urban Regeneration Lab (SUR Lab) of Bocconi University, within the framework of the MUSA Spoke 1 – Urban Regeneration project.
This episode focuses on Rome, one of the nine Italian cities participating in the European Mission “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030". These cities have committed to some of the most ambitious climate targets in Europe, aiming to reach climate neutrality within the decade. Achieving this objective requires not only technological and infrastructural change, but also a strong alliance among public institutions, businesses, universities, and citizens.
A central instrument in this process is the Climate City Contract, signed by Rome at the end of 2025. The Contract defines objectives, actions, investments, costs, and funding sources necessary to accelerate the city’s transition toward climate neutrality.
The conversation offers insight into the governance, financial, and social dimensions of urban climate transition, highlighting both the structural constraints and the opportunities for innovation in one of Europe’s most historically layered capitals.
