Remote Work: Urban Revolution? Global Cities and the Challenge of Remote Work

On May 20, 2025, ISPI, in collaboration with EuroMilano, organised a public event in Milan to mark the launch of the book"Lonely in the Crowd: Plugged or Remote? Global Cities and the Challenge of Hybrid Work." The book explores the long-term impacts of remote and hybrid work on global cities, focusing on economic, social, and spatial transformations accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Professor Edoardo Croci, SUR Lab Director at Bocconi University and contributor to the book, was among the speakers. His chapter, co-authored with Tania Molteni, analyses the structural changes in urban living and working spaces driven by new working modalities and their implications for well-being and equity in urban areas.
Here you can rewatch the event.
The event brought together diverse experts—including urban planners, policymakers, researchers, and corporate leaders—to discuss the future of city life in light of these ongoing shifts. Discussions addressed how hybrid work may affect the relationship between city centres and peripheries, infrastructure investment, social inclusion, and urban governance.
