ISPI Report "Lonely in the Crowd: Plugged or Remote? Global Cities and the Challenge of Hybrid Work"

ISPI has just released a Report titled “Lonely in the Crowd: Plugged or Remote? Global Cities and the Challenge of Hybrid Work.” Among the key contributions is a chapter by Professor Edoardo Croci, Director of the Sustainable Urban Regeneration (SUR) Lab at Bocconi University, and Tania Molteni, a researcher at the SUR Lab.
Their chapter, “New Living and Working Spaces in the Post-Pandemic City: A Structural Change to Improve Wellbeing,” investigates how the pandemic-driven shift to remote work is transforming cities. Drawing on SUR Lab’s long-standing research, the authors examine how changing work habits are reshaping the built environment, public space usage, and citizens’ quality of life. The analysis outlines how urban planning and policy must adapt to foster well-being in a hybrid work era.
The Report, edited by Tobia Zevi, brings together perspectives from international scholars and institutions, including the London School of Economics, IAE Paris-Sorbonne, ENEA, and Eurocities. Topics span from mobility changes and polycentric urban development to digital healthcare workforces and adaptive reuse of office space.
ISPI, in collaboration with EuroMilano, will present the Report during a public conference on May 20, with the participation of Professor Croci among the speakers. The event will provide an opportunity to discuss the Report findings with policymakers, urban planners, and private sector leaders.
The conference will be held on Tuesday, 20 May at Palazzo Clerici (via Clerici, 5, Milano) at 5.00 pm.
