Assessing the impacts of urban regeneration: Insights from the fourth Bocconi Masterclass

The fourth Masterclass of the Bocconi series “Regenerating the City: strategies and tools to manage transformations and create value” was held on October 16, 2025, focusing on assessing the economic, environmental and social impacts of urban regeneration.
Experts shared valuable insights on how urban regeneration can be evaluated not only in terms of physical transformation but also through its broader economic, environmental and social impacts. Starting from the challenge of translating complex regeneration goals into measurable outcomes, the session addressed the need for clear indicators, transparent methodologies and shared standards. The Masterclass provided a comprehensive overview of current approaches to impact assessment, highlighting how robust evaluation frameworks can support more effective planning, stakeholder engagement and long-term value creation.
The session was structured around three thematic areas:
- Frameworks and methodologies for measuring impact, including the use of indicators and digital tools to track urban decarbonisation progress
- The role of technical standards and voluntary guidelines, with a focus on the Italian and European regulatory landscape presented by UNI
- Applied experiences from REDO, EuroMilano and AECOM, showing how impact measurement is integrated into real estate and infrastructure projects
